Skin Health Matters. Know your facts.
As veterinary dermatologists, we are often asked about how to maintain good health of our pet’s skin and hair coat. In general, good nutrition and routine bathing are good places to start. Make sure to feed your dog a high quality, nutritionally balanced diet. Today, pet parents have a wide variety of high quality diets on the market to choose from. Diets supplemented with essential fatty acids (often marine fish oils) may be of benefit in dogs with chronic, allergic skin disease.
Routine bathing and cleansing of the skin helps to remove dirt and debris. This can be especially helpful in dogs with a history of skin disease. If your dog has allergies, odor, itchy or rashy skin more frequent bathing can be helpful to remove bacteria, yeast and other products of inflammation from the skin surface. In addition- it can be a great for overall skin health & to prevent that doggy odor! On our website you will find a variety of blogs and articles on topics relating to the general health of your pet’s skin.
